Pencils for writing, sketching and drawing
Since its invention, the pencil from the world of creators and creatives has become indispensable. In the hundreds of years of its existence, it has been continuously developed to constantly improve shape and graphite abrasion. Pencils are still among the easiest to correct writing instruments.
In addition to our classic Castell 9000, the Grip 2001 has established itself as a worthy successor to the market. In addition to the classic wooden pencil, there are also mechanical pencils and mechanical pencils, which make the Nachspitzen unnecessary and make the pencil always ready to use tools in all situations. Mechanical pencils and mechanical pencils can be found in the Product Type Mechanical Pencils. >> Pencil grades - their significance and areas of application: The components of a graphite lead: The lead of a pencil consists of graphite, clay and impregnating agent. Our pencil should be properly called graphite pencil. The graphite provides blackness in writing. Clay acts as a binder and gives the mine after the firing process (at about 900 ° C) form and strength. Fat and wax components ensure lubricity and firmness. The liability on the respective writing surface is thereby improved. Differentiations in degrees of hardness H and B are symbolized by prefixed numbers. The number in front of the letter indicates the increasing blackness or hardness. The larger the number, the harder or blacker the respective mine.
Many pencil models are available in several degrees of hardness. So the Castell 9000 is available in 16 different gradations. The softest variant is the Castell 9000 in 8B. The hardest variant (especially intended for sketching) is the 6H. The different degrees of hardness are achieved by different mixing ratios of clay and graphite in the manufacturing process. The higher the clay content, the harder the mine becomes. A high graphite content ensures a very soft and dark hatching. Since a pencil lead does not contain any lead, it is not poisonous either.
Sharpening pencils
For most applications, a very sharp mine is required. This is best achieved with a pencil sharpener. So that the tip does not break off at the tips, it is advisable to regularly renew the sharpener or to buy a new one. Good pencils are made of hard wood - when sharpening the tip knife becomes blunt over a longer period of time. As a rule of thumb: A sharpener should be renewed after 12 'pointed' pins. If you still have the 'good old sharpener from Grandpa', it is certainly time to get a new sharpener. A wide selection can be found here in the Faber-Castell online shop or at our specialist retail partners.
